NERVE INNOVATION

The peripheral nerve space is rapidly changing. Our Research Committee highlights recent and impactful innovations in nerve research. These discussions allow researchers to present a recent publication, trial, or technology in the peripheral nerve space that improves the lives of people with nerve problems.

Episode 4 – Rehabilitation and Cortical Remodeling After Surgical Intervention for SCI

Additional information about the study can be found here: https://clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT04041063

Amanda Bernstein, MRes., the Engineering Manager and Lab Scientist in the Hollis Lab, presents Rehabilitation and Cortical Remodeling After Surgical Intervention for SCI from Burke Neurological Institute in collaboration with Dr. Justin Brown at the Massachusetts General Paralysis Center. The focus of this trial is to determine the effects of rehabilitation on dexterous hand movements and cortical motor map changes in tetraplegic patients following nerve transfer surgery.

Episode 3

Dr. Ek Tsoon Tan and Dr. Darryl Sneag presenting Hourglass-like constrictions on MRI are common in electromyography-confirmed cases of neuralgic amyotrophy (Parsonage–Turner syndrome): A tertiary referral center experience.

Dr. Tan and Dr. Sneag discuss their recent publication to determine the sensitivity of identifying hourglass-like constructions using magnetic resonance neurography (MRN).

Episode 2

Dr. Frederick Van der Cruyssen presenting Consensus guidelines on training, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care of trigeminal nerve injuries.

Dr. Van der Cruyssen discusses his recent publication using a Delphi study to identify where consensus exists in the training, diagnosis, and treatment of trigeminal nerve injuries and where consensus is still lacking.

Episode 1

Dr. Michiel Zuidam presenting Nonsurgical Treatment of Neuralgia and Cervicogenic Headache: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

Dr. Zuidam discusses recent results looking at the success of non-surgical treatments for migraines work vs. surgery, his thoughts on how patient care in Europe differs from the US when it comes to migraine surgery.
