Summary: There are only 9 CAST-approved Peripheral Nerve Fellowships in the country and Penn Medicine is a leader among the group. Peripheral nerve surgery (PNS) deals with the evaluation and treatment of patients with traumatic nerve injuries, entrapment neuropathies (e.g., CTS, cubital tunnel syndrome, etc.) and mass lesions associated with peripheral nerves (e.g., tumors and cysts). Summary: The fellow will be an active participant in the clinic where they will develop an understanding of the diagnosis of nerve injuries and observe the results of surgical interventions. They will also have a role in evaluating the patients in the pre-operative and post-operative period. The fellow will participate in operative nerve releases and reconstructions under the guidance and mentorship of faculty. The development of microsurgical skills will be fostered through microsurgical training in the laboratory and then implemented for patients in the clinical setting. The team will focus on discussion of diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to plexus and Peripheral nerve injuries including surgery, ultrasound-guided nerve blocks, hydrodissection, cryoneurolisis, pulsed and conventional radiofrequency as well as Peripheral Nerve simulation. We plan having at least one conjoined meeting every month. We are located in the ULS Coimbra, Portugal.
